A New Religion

“A religion is a system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods in men by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing those conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.”
― Clifford Geertz

“We write, edit, and rewrite the story of our own life employing descriptive words, metaphors, and symbols. Our lives are full of symbols including those supplied by nature and religion, which touch upon the mystical and spiritual aspects of life. Symbols inspire enduring hope by formulating idealist expectations.”
― Kilroy J. Oldster

Many years ago I found enlightenment but then I lost touch with what I had learned. I think part of the reason was because I had nothing around me to make me think about what I had learned about myself and the world.  Nothing to jar my mind, make me rise above the thought flow and situations in order to see with things with clarity.  a view not clouded with improper thoughts.  After all these years I think what I needed was a symbol of my trek to learn about the world and myself.  Something that I would have looked at and caught myself.

Create a symbol for yourself. Create a symbol that represents and connects you to your journey of self discovery, learning what makes you tick, what makes others tick.  Create a symbol of your effort to better yourself and see your interactions with others and the world with clarity, with objective reasoning.

Take this symbol and put it around your neck, put it on the walls of your home, on your desk at work and immerse yourself in what you’ve learned whenever you look at it and not get angry when that doesn’t help, to not see a situation based on unrealistic thoughts that cause you to see things not as they truly are.

Make a poster with your symbol, put it on a coffee mug, turn it into a piece of jewelry, put it on a T-shirt. Let it be an instant visual connection to your journey of self understanding and learning about the world.

Use symbolism the way it’s used in religion. Create your own religion.

My logo I created in Photoshop.  I’m not saying you have to use that application but its a very powerful graphics program that will allow you many tools to create the logo that you envision for yourself.

Music also can be a reminder of your endeavor to learn about and understand yourself better.  Most of us listen to more than one genre of music but you may have to expand your horizons and listen to genres you haven’t explored in order to find pieces that make you think about your journey of self discovery and fathom this mystery that we live in called the universe.

Symbolism and music, use them in your journey.  Rituals too might be of some use.  Move beyond what is normal and evolve, help those around you to do the same.

Put your symbol on a T-shirt prominently and below it in a smaller size put the symbols of disciplines of knowledge that have contributed to your point of view, your understanding.
